Freedom Commons Summer Market Grows with More Not-for-Profit Groups
May 5, 2011
Freedom Commons in Naperville will reprise an expanded Summer Market with a Grand Opening on Saturday, May 14 at 9 am. Begun last year by the We Grow Dreams Greenhouse and Garden Center, the market was so successful that additional not-for-profit organizations will raise funds through the sale of retail goods at the every-Saturday event on the patios of Freedom Commons, at the northern gateway to Naperville.
Visitors can enjoy We Grow Dreams' beautiful hanging baskets, perennials, annuals, herbs, vegetable plants, aquaponically grown fresh lettuce and tomatoes, planted dish gardens and large planters, as well as bird houses, personalized garden bricks, gift items and handmade cards. We Grow Dreams provides training and employment to young people with disabilities. New this year will be packaged Fair Trade ground and whole bean "Heart of the Brew" coffees and coffee gift packs from Arbor Vitae to benefit Misericordia Heart of Mercy; Culinary Comforts cookbooks for sale to benefit Loaves & Fishes; as well as Pet treats, people treats and logo items from A.D.O.P.T Pet Shelter. Additional groups will join the market later this spring. An updated list of Market Vendors will be posted at www.freedomcommons.com and on the Freedom commons Facebook page.
The Summer Market will be open Saturdays from 9am-1pm weather permitting from May 14-October. Not-for-profit organizations display and sell their wares at no charge. Located at the I-88 Naperville exit and Diehl Road on Freedom Drive in Naperville's north end, Freedom Commons is home to a number of restaurants and businesses including Maggiano's, The White Chocolate Grill, Morton's and Naf Naf Grill.
Grand Opening festivities on Saturday May 14 at 9:00 will feature Mayor George Pradel and entertainment by the Main Melody and Fluffernutters Show Choirs from the School of Performing Arts in Naperville. A drawing will be held for Freedom Commons gifts.
"We are pleased to have a number of organizations that will compliment the beautiful plant and flower booth that We Grow Dreams hosts on at our center to support their efforts to provide training and employment for young people with disabilities," says Rod Farrar, of Suburban Real Estate Services, Inc., Broker/Property Manager for Freedom Commons. "They were so popular last year, we thought we should extend the opportunity to other organizations as well. This is a way to enhance awareness of Freedom Commons and provide a service to the community. It's a real win-win."
